A HOLIDAY BREAK CHECK IN

With a week of break under our belts and just a handful of days left, I thought I’d check in. So far, my break has been a solid A, mainly due to the fact I tried to stay reasonable. Like every holiday season, both of my children (and husband) got sick, but it was fleeting. We spent wonderful quality time with all of our families. We took the kids to Boston for a family-day date. We ate and drank too much (more recipes and ideas to come). We spent evenings with good friends laughing and even crying from laughing (always the best sign), and, I got my much-needed hermit status time with self care, such as reading, manicures, baths, and an afternoon nap. Also, how cute are those mini holiday notes featured above? Will gave me a set from Anchor & Sail.

The kids are having fun and enjoying the remnants of the holiday gifts, but of course there are exhausted mornings (days and evenings), lots of whining, too much sugar, and arguing. But I’m trying to just acknowledge the normalcy of family break with kids and be patient.

Last night after meeting friends for drinks and apps at Corner Stop, we stayed in and enjoyed Mainstay Bakery’s mac and cheese. I made an arugula salad, we lit a fire, and watched Carry On on Netflix (we dug it) all while sipping on a delightful French red from Barrel & Vine and lights were out at 9:30pm. Today, despite the fog and mist, I’m feeling more fueled and ready for the day. My plan is to exercise and then head to Tree House Brewery in Sandwich for views, brews, and pizza. Stay-tuned!
